Earlier this week, optimism over the nomination of Scott Bessent as US Treasury secretary and progress on the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire agreement put significant pressure on gold prices. Expectations that Bessent will impose progressive tariffs to close the budget deficit led to a sharp decline in US Treasury yields, further weakening the dollar.
